FUN STUFF

This entry will be a splattering of FUN stuff.

I am thinking of Sweden...... That is where I will soon be. Among dogs. You are not seeing double, in the following pic. Skye is on the right and Freja, my Mom's curly coated retriever, is on the left. It was taken last summer. Freja loves water and will hop in anywhere. Not Skye!

And two summers ago, at 10 weeks old, she looked like this.

Cute huh?! This is Freja last summer, one year old. You think kids grow up quickly!

Eric's dog died recently, so he will be getting a puppy. He has decided to get another samojed! There will be three dogs living in the house, of which one is a teeny, little white ball of fur. I will have some fabulous photos when I return..... I will show you some really great pictures of the huge trees around our house. I have a photo, but it is not digital, where I am standing at the foot of a large spruce. I am so teeny, teeny next to this huge evergreen. I will try and take a similar photo so I can show you.
My Mom will be staying with us. She is 82. This pic is taken last summer on our porch facing the lake.

And then I had to take this photo of a hole that "appeared over night" one block away, here in Brussels.

It is a yard and one half wide and DEEP. I coulld fit into it! I do not quite understand how such a huge hole can so suddenly appear. I guess rainwater just swooshed away all the dirt under the pavement. It has been raining heavily since the beginning of May. April was exceptionally hot and beautiful; it didn't rain ONCE the entire month. Since then, that is all we have had, rain and icy cold temperatures. This hole has made it necessary to block off the entire street!
One more fun photo. This is my "pig lamp".

A couple of years ago we bought piggy in Spa. Per put a light bulb into him, and we turned him into a lamp. I am sure you know that the word spa is a resort town with natural mineral water springs. Did you know that this word originates from a little town in Belgium?! This is a really good dictionary site on the web, and it is opened here to the word "spa".

Toodles!
P.S. Scott found that blog entry about coke, which I spoke of in my last entry! Here it is. Scott, thank you.

Awesome dog pics! They are absolutely beautiful. Seeing him chew on the log makes me wonder what else he may have chewed. Our house is still recovering from the puppyhood of our last adoptee. She was about 6 months old when we got her and liked logs, window sills, screens, and the corners of furniture. But she and the other 3 are so worth it and add joy and laughter to every day.

Glad to see your focus on some non "D" subjects. Perhaps it is a form of denial, but it works for me in between the 7 or so daily BG checks.

Cute pics! Personally, I am looking forward to my summer vacation (holiday) which begins on Saturday ... I'm counting the days until my own midsummer festival begins! I haven't been to Sweden or Finland in a few years, but I can certainly understand why you miss it. Any thoughts of moving back there someday, or maybe you'd like to try someplace in North America next?!

Megan - is it you that have been commentin on previous entries. I THINK that is another "Megan" - "Megan in Milwaukee". Please clue me in if I am corresponding with different people. I tried to click onto her site and it wasn't allowed. I do have "Nothing is sound" connected to my bloglines, and I think that is you. Right? Dogs, I couldn't live without them! You always get back what you give them.

Carol - that is Freja chewing away at the stick. That is fine, as you say as long as she sticks to the sticks! I HEAR what you are saying......I agree completely. Dogs do cause trouble but the rewards FAR OUTWEIGH any trouble. I have a temper. I get really grumpy, BUT I GET VERY HAPPY TOO. I am that kind of person. I tell it like it is! I felt I really had to say that I am feeling better. I don't like people thinking that I am always so down. I bounce! And the thing is, I am happy with my life. I am proud of my 5.3 HbA1c and that cannot come easy, for anyone. It is important one sees all sides.

Hi cesnh - yeah my Mom and I, we have a good relationship. Very honest. We tell each other when the other one is driving us buggy. We have arguments, and we get over them. No two people can be the same. In Sweden, Mom, my husband and I and my son and his wife who live in our house in Sweden will all be there together. That will be BOTH difficult and FUN! I think it is easier the older you get b/c you no longer have to proove yourself, demand that others think as you do. I really believe it will be hardest for Ylva, Eric's wife. We others really KNOW eachother. I am really hard to take b/c I am very outspoken. Swedes are more reserved. YES, Kathy! I will take pics of huge spruce and pine - we have about 20 BIG ones. And I will take pics of the beautiful stone path I made, down to picking up the stones from the dirt, loading them into the car, not being able to get our car up the hill to our house and having to take 1/2 out 1/2 way up the hill! This is how I have wrecked my hands, but I love my path. If you knew what a junk heap everything looked like when we bought the place. I have cut down so many trees, the small ones. Moved rocks, sometimes the same ones several times..... Painted walls and CEILINGS, white everywhere. (Orinially, there was red scotch plain wall paper in the kitchen and jungle paper in the bathroom. I LOVE the place b/c I have worked my butt off! I LOVE the place so much! Everything I look at, I KNOW what went in to get it that way.

All of you - do you want to hear something amazing. On TuDiabetes someone contacted me who lives in Belgium, is married to a Swede and was born in the US! JUST LIKE ME! Her child has diabetes, and she is younger than me. I have sent her a comment. I HOPE she answers SOON! I am also a very IMPATIENT person. Poor Per, what he has to live with!

Oh Scott you are writing the same time as me! Before I miss you - you spoke of Danbury, Conncticut. I use to live in Westchester which is nearby, does South Salem ring a bell. I use to go to a really crowded WONDEFUL toy store called Trellas. It sounded like that. Teeny, two floors, stuffed with toys. Of course that was 50 years ago. We lived in a HUGE white house - which we called "the White House. Ha ha! We loved alot, so each house has sort of a name. Eventually we will go back to Sweden. It is a GOOD country sith good medical care. I wouldn't mind a little house in Brittany someday. I will get you the salmiak candy and mail it to you. i cannot spell anything!

Scott - I forgot to mention. I have lived in the US until I was 19. I lived in NYC, several houses in Westchester, Shorewood(near Milwaukee), Wilmette(outside Chicago), Hollywood(Florida) and studied at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. I think I will stay in Europe b/c I like the abundence of cultures all so close by.

Chrissie-
Skye and Freja are so cute! I love seeing cute dog pictures. Thanks for sharing.
Dixie went to the park this morning and bounced through the grass looking for bunnies to chase. People there think that she looks so funny. She bounces up really high and then looks around for critters and then lands. It is a beautiful morning here in St. Paul, MN. Temp is 68 and it is sunny and beautiful. We had an extra long time at the park enjoying the weather.

Oh Molly, I get happy when you tell me about the lovely time you are having with Dixie. Really, I smile!

Hey Chrissie! I'm blogging from Boston, but I'm still Renée in Japan! Love the pics and all the comments. I'm going down to the Eastern Shore to my parents tomorrow, so I'll be with my (10yr old) puppy again. He got a "summer haircut", which I know is easier for my mom and more comfortable for him, but I still like his long coat. Joslins was the best! I am now a confirmed pumper. I'm being beeped at as I write (low battery). I also got back to Prov for the first time in nearly 30 yrs! It sure has changed. Still, it will be good to go back home. Our daughter is in Japan for August, and I don't get to see her nearly enough! Hope you have a great time in Sweden. Hugs, Renée

I hope that you're having a nice Summer. I wanted to let you know about a book that I just started. I loved the introduction and the first chapter and I think I'll enjoy the book. It's called Writing to Change the World and the author is Mary Pipher.

Maybe I'll write a book review when I'm finished it.

I'm trying to improve both why I write and how I write on my blog. I do hope this book helps in some small way.

I wish you much love and great blood glucose numbers!

What a lovely dog you have. Somehow I'll be planning to take a vacation in Sweden too. Have a great day!

Bernard, I am back, but I have so much to do. As soon as I can I will do a new blog entry. Thanks for the book tip. I will check it out on B&N!

Hi Renée, I am really happy that you are pleased with your pump and Joslin. Does Joslin promote one particular pump? So Joslin still is great. Gosh I wish they had a clinic here in Europe!!! Please send me an email so we can blab. I can just imagine how nice and heartrending it is to meet your old feline and canine family members..... And kids who have become adults - I think you will think, like me, that kids are easier when they are little. Much easier - then you get to decide stuff. Now it is all out of your hands.

And "snacks for diabetes" - please explain that funny name! Check out my newest post - pics of Sweden and dogs. Sweden and dogs - I TRLY love them both!

I am really annoyed at BLOGGER, not you anonymous. I just wrote a long comment to you about how I amnaged to loose weight. My comment is gone and that really annoys me. I do not have the energy to rewrite evcerything - maybe I will loose it again! So in brief, I believe that keeping your blood glucose levels very well controlled helps one loose weight. Weight just fell off of me when I got the pump and was able to maintain good blood glucose levels. It was practically impossible for me to loose weight when I was unable to get really good bg control. You can always email me if you want to know more! Good luck!
